With a run of wet weather this spring we've had tough conditions on the Allegheny Tailwater, below the Kinzua Dam. This past week has brought ideal conditions for drifting and wading the river. The upcoming forecast is for nice flows and if the weather stays dry it will continue to get better. As far as hatches a few sulphurs, certain eddies have brown drakes and the Allegheny river caddis are thick. During cloudy days I've been seeing some BWO's with a few fish turning onto them. The pictures above are of a couple of rainbows I caught while wade fishing this afternoon. This past week, while drifting, I picked up fish throughout the entire river system between Warren and the Dam in all of the usual spots. One of the picks above is a rainbow that was stocked as a fingerling last summer. There are many of these guys around that are fun to catch, especially in the Alleghenies swift flows. While bluegill fishing this summer always be prepared for the occassional bass to come in and eat your offerings. Often while casting poppers along gravel bars for gills I'll get a bucketmouth or a bronzeback. What a great suprise!!! The fish above took a small rubber legged streamer. My dogs love wading with me while casting for bluegills. Have fun this summer on your favorite small pond or lake, you never know you might get suprised too.

Have you ever thought about Fly Fishing for Peacocks in the Amazon. I highly recommend it to anyone. Not only for adventure, the fishing is exciting too. Here is a picture of the average Bass. As you can see in the pic the water was high, which made getting to the big ones tough. We didn't get anything over seven pounds, in Brazil its not considered big until they reach twelve pounds. Fun anyhow. This is the first post of a series on fly fishing the Amazon. I look forward to sharing this experience with you.

Its been awhile since my last post. It doesn't mean that the fishing has stopped, its just getting started. The Clarion has been near perfect for streamer fishing this spring and the Allegheny is finally at a fishable level.
