Allegheny River Frenzy!

Picking Up

Things are looking good on the Allegheny River.  With cool nights and moderate days the fishing on the gheny is getting better!  Early morning is the best bet now.  Caddis, Trico Spinners, BWO's and some Cahills are dominating the hatches.  The fishing during the remainder of the day slows a bit from the morning frenzy, but still every run and riffle has some willing eaters.  I hope to see you on the river soon, the fishing into the fall is just going to get better!

Just Spent the last week in New Orleans at the International Fly Tackle show.  Great experience.  Had the chance to meet allot of great people and test out some new products (also slipped in a couple of days of redfishing).  You'll see the pictures posted above of some great new products that are going to be introduced for 2012 and a couple of fish pics.  The next post will be up to date fishing reports for North Western PA.  Look forward to seeing you on the river.

Off To New Orleans

This weekend was less than perfect for fly fishing conditions.  The Allegheny was at a nice flow of 1270 CFS with a few smaller fish active in some of the riffles and runs.  The Alleghenies water temp is holding at 68F, still a little warm to keep the big fish happy.  Once the temp. starts to drop back into the lower 60's you find the action start to heat up.  The Clarion water temp is holding at a good temperature, it just needs a little more flow.  The actions is what you can expect for August fishing on both rivers.  Still catching fish, just not huge numbers.
Off to the Big Easy for the International Fly Tackle Retailer this week.  Once I'm back from the show, I'll post some picks and my thoughts on some of the new fly fishing product that is going to be introduced for 2012.  Back on the river next week and will have more fishing news soon.  Hope to catch some Redfish while down there too.  Tight lines until next time.

Clarion River

Some rainy weather finally made it's way to us this summer.  Fishing on the Clarion is starting to look up with rain and clouds setting in.  Each day the fishing just keeps getting better.  It's not epic numbers and monsters, like during the spring and early summer.  It's just good fishing for August.  The fish have stopped looking at the surface and most of the action is nymphing and streamers.  We had a fun couple of days finding a few willing fish while enjoying the float down the river.  I hope to see all of you out there.  Best Fishes.
