Steelheading Extravaganza!

Varying Conditions

This week has been a bag of varying conditions throughout the Erie tributary system.  With spotty lake effect showers, inland storms and cold fronts from every angle each creek experienced different flows and clarity from another.  As steelhead anglers we've learned that no matter what it is like out there, some creeks fish very well in not so great conditions and others phenomenal.
The steelheading has been great this year and there is nothing but many more months of exciting fishing to come.  I look forward to seeing you on the tributaries.

Steelhead Mania!

It's ON!

This weeks report is "ITS ON"!  The steelhead are in and in great numbers this year.  All of the creeks have excellent fishing on them and it's time to go.  The trout fishing remains great and will continue through winter.  I'm already thinking of the excellent spring run off streamer season for trophy wild browns and the great spring dry fly action.  Until then the steelhead will have to keep the rod bent and the line ripping.  See you on the water!!!

Steelhead Pictures

Lake Erie Steelhead

This week proved to be a nice one to be on the water.  Low clear conditions prevailed on the Erie Tributaries.  To the patient fly angler, carefully working through the riffle, runs and pools with precision and stealth a reward in bright chrome leaping from the depths at the end of the line was the pay off.  With rain in the forecast for the rest of the weekend, some of the creeks will fish better than others.  Early next week water conditions should be prime!  Good Luck this steelhead season and I'll see you on the tribs!

Fresh Chrome

Fall Browns

Trout and Steelhead

It's that time of year when the leaves change, the water gets cooler and the rain begins to fall.  It's also the time of year when there is so much fishing it's hard to determine what to do.  I always see this as a good problem to have.

Clarion River-  The Clarion fished well over the weekend, with great water conditions and overcast skies the big browns came out to play.  With sunny and dry conditions fore casted for the rest of the week, I don't foresee the big fish playing much longer.  As the week progresses try reverting back to nymphing techniques.

Allegheny River-  The Allegheny has been hit and miss this week.  Some days the fish were cooperative and we landed may and other we worked for the high quality ones we landed.  Several trout over 20 inches were landed this week.

Steelhead-  The runs have began and fish are distributed up and down the majority of the creeks.  Some creeks have been running low and clear and others high an muddy.  The Catt. has been up with off color water conditions.  As we move into this weekend the fishing will be good.

See you on the River.
